Lacrosse, the fastest game on two feet! Come out and try it! Katy Lacrosse Club – New Upcoming 2nd SeasonHigh School age young men living in the ‘zoned’ area of Katy High School, either attending public, private or being home schooled may become a member of this team. The 2007-2008 Season was a tremendous success and we look forward to an even better season in 08-09. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport among Jr. and Sr. High programs in Texas. Always known as a ‘cold climate’ sport and played for so many years up North, Lacrosse has broken lose in Houston and surrounding areas in the last 10 years. Most, if not all programs and Clubs at the High School level belong to two very established organizations which oversee the sport, keeping it very well organized and professionally run. Take a look at US Lacrosse at www.uslacrosse.org and Texas High School Lacrosse League at www.thsll.org and you can learn about local teams that compete here by clicking South District. We often hear so much about football, especially in Katy, but the sport of Lacrosse is just as demanding if not more so in regards to specific skills, such as speed, agility, coordination, and endurance is often likened to many techniques known in soccer, basketball and hockey. The plus about Lacrosse is you don’t have to compete with hundreds of other players on a team to get field time. With usually between 25-40 players in a program, combined with dedication and hard work, you get all the field time you want. We are so pleased to have Matt Spears, our Head Coach returning, who led us to 8 wins out of 10, in our very first season and is hands down, one of the most positive and supportive men I have ever met. The young men playing for him appreciate the experience he brings from playing Lacrosse at Texas A & M, as well as the Gulf Coast Men’s Lacrosse Association, and the whole team of parents and players benefited from his awesome leadership. We hope to hear from you soon, registrations are being taken this summer, season practices will begin in early August. Registration packet is available on the website so please check us out at www.lacrosseatkaty.com or by email: debbieddowdell@yahoo.com. laCenterra at cinco ranch and medical fitness pros“NEW YEAR NEW YOU” BROWNBAG LUNCH AND FREE FITNESS SEMINAR January 23 noon – 1:00 p.m. Join Jason Hodge, Medical Fitness Pros manager and certified medical exercise specialist January 23 at noon in Heritage Square for “New Year, New You,” a free presentation and group discussion focusing on health and wellness in the New Year.
